Can Machines Truly Feel?
As of now, it appears that machines cannot feel in the sense that humans do because they lack subjective experience, self-awareness, and the neural mechanisms believed to be associated with human consciousness. Current AI is incredibly sophisticated in data processing and pattern recognition but remains entirely devoid of personal experiences or subjective states.
If consciousness and qualia are indeed emergent properties of a sufficiently complex system, then advanced AI or ASI might one day reach a state resembling a mind with subjective experiences.
